FEDOR EMELIANENKO VS. ANTONIO SILVA IN THE WORKS FOR JANUARY 29 STRIKEFORCE CARD
 
It appears Fedor Emelianenko and M-1 Global have come to an agreement to return to the Strikeforce cage, and the former top Heavyweight is in discussions to meet Antonio Silva on the Jan 29 card. Sources close to the negotiations informed us that the fight is in the works for the 2011 card, with Fedor returning to action for the first time since his loss to Fabricio Werdum in June.
Since that time, Fedor has been sitting with one final fight on his current deal with Strikeforce as the promotion has been negotiating with his management company at M-1 Global to get an extension done.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has sounded confident all along that they would reach an agreement, and while no information was available about the terms, his potential return in January seems to indicate a conclusion.
Meanwhile, Antonio Silva is coming off a win in his last fight just a couple of weeks ago in Strikeforce, finishing off late replacement Mike Kyle in the 2nd round of their Heavyweight match-up. Silva had been on hiatus since May when he defeated former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski before returning in December to finish Mike Kyle.
The January 29 card has been in discussion for some time and while Strikeforce hasn’t made any official announcement, several fighters including Nick Diaz and Jason “Mayhem” Miller are rumored to be on the show.

JASON "MAYHEM" MILLER VS. TIM KENNEDY III POSSIBLE FOR JANUARY 29 STRIKEFORCE EVENT
A trilogy fight between Middleweights Jason "Mayhem" Miller (24-7 MMA, 1-1 SF) and Tim Kennedy (12-3 MMA, 3-1 SF) could be part of the January 29 Showtime-televised Strikeforce event in San Jose, California. Sources close to the fighters told us both contenders are interested in the matchup, which soon could be signed. If so, it'd end weeks of speculation and bickering over a once-likely (but now unlikely) Miller vs. Nick Diaz matchup.
The fight, though, remains unsigned, and both Strikeforce and Showtime officials would have to approve it. A Strikeforce spokesperson told us the fight card still is being determined for the HP Pavilion event, and Showtime officials weren't immediately available for comment.
Over the past month, Diaz, who is Strikeforce's current Welterweight champ, and Miller, who's a rival who clashed with the titleholder during an infamous post-event brawl at an April Strikeforce event, publicly have discussed a potential meeting. But the sides can't agree on a weight for the fight. Miller wants the bout at Middleweight, a weight at which Diaz previously has stated he'd fight. But as Diaz's trainer, Cesar Gracie, recently told us, they're not willing to fight heavier than 178 pounds.
"Apparently, 'Mayhem' can't make 170," Gracie said. "We're not going to accommodate going to 185. It doesn't really make that much sense to call someone out, and the champ has to ... go to your weight class (for the fight)."
Miller, though, wants Diaz to follow through on past comments that he'd be willing to fight at 185 pounds. With an apparent stalemate – and with negotiations never advancing beyond the earliest stages – Miller vs. Kennedy III instead could be Strikeforce's play. And it's certainly a marketable fight.
At Extreme Challenge 50 in 2003, little-known Kennedy scored an upset of Miller with a unanimous-decision win. Four years later, when HDNet Fights promoted a pair of its own cards in Dallas, the rematch served as the headliner, and Miller narrowly escaped a submission and ultimately won the decision to even the score. A potential Strikeforce title fight could be on the line if the rubber match is secured.
After signing with Strikeforce in 2009, Kennedy, a decorated military veteran, posted consecutive submission wins over Nick Thompson, Zak Cummings and Trevor Prangley to earn a shot at Jake Shields' vacant belt. However, back in August, he suffered a decision loss to Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, who won and still holds the belt.
Miller, who's fought for virtually every major MMA promotion during his 10-year career, is riding a two-fight winning streak since a late-2009 loss to Shields. Back in April, he scored a TKO win over Tim Stout at "Strikeforce: Nashville" (and jump-started a melee with Team Gracie when he interrupted Shields post-fight speech to demand a rematch). Then, back in August, he headed overseas and submitted Kazushi Sakuraba at DREAM.16.

Si era detto di non usare più il tag spoiler, quindi colloco il commento più in basso, per chiunque non volesse anticipazioni.
WEC 53
E così la storia della WEC giunge alla fine, con un evento che nel suo complesso risulta buono e risollevato in particolare da un Main Event intenso ed elettrizzante: la UFC, quindi, saluta il suo nuovo Bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, forte di un cardio sorprendente e di una velocità spiazzante con cui ha dominato per cinque round uno Jorgensen che non è sembrato neppure lui. Troppo lento per il campione che ha potuto gestire il tutto, anche con alcuni takedown sorprendenti. Adesso si parla già di un Cruz vs Faber, ma io starei attento anche a Torres, che è pur sempre un grande nome, per quanto venga da un periodo non proprio roseo.
Come dicevo prima, Main Event elettrizzante con il nuovo campione Anthony Pettis, autore di un highlight pazzesco: qualcosa d'impensabile o da ricollocare soltanto ai film di Matrix. Di sicuro l'highlight del 2010. Mi dispiace molto per Henderson, ma Pettis ha tutte le carte per mettere in crisi (e anche battere) Edgar o Maynard. Certo che dopo aver visto questo match per il titolo dei lightweight, immaginare di avere di fronte Edgar vs Maynard non è proprio il massimo.
Adesso la WEC è definitivamente assorbita e vedremo come cambieranno gli equilibri: è stata una promotion decisamente affascinante, i cui fighter meritano ampiamente la visibilità che arriverà dalla UFC.
Particolarmente avvincente sarà l'inserimento dei fighter nella categoria Light: Pettis, Henderson, Cerrone, Varner...hanno tutti qualcosa da dire e da mostrare al grande pubblico. E chissà che cosa accadrà...in attesa di vedere quando (e se) Aldo deciderà di salire di categoria. |

Ottimo evento WEC 53, probabilmente uno dei migliori dell'anno. Cruz ha letteralmente dominato Joergensen che ha capito poco o niente di quello che stava succedendo. Lo stile strano ma efficace del campione e il suo incredibile cardio hanno fatto la differenza. Concordo poi con HappyHellShow. Riterrei più giusto un Faber vs. Torres per stabilire il first contender piuttosto che mandare direttamente Faber che ha una solo vittoria all'attivo al momento.
Grande main event, equilibrato e con continui ribaltamenti. Quel calcio di Pettis è stato qualcosa di assurdo, una manovra straordinaria. In generale ritengo giusta la vittoria di Pettis anche se Henderson non ha sfigurato. Bisognerà vedere se saranno all'altezza di competere con i migliori lightweight in UFC. |

Bruttissimo match di Jorgensen, che peccato che non sia riuscito minimamente ad entrare nel ritmo del match e sia stato letteralmente dominato, sembrava il Jorgensen di 2-3 anni fa, di certo non la bestia vista nelle ultime uscite...Complimenti a Cruz, che è a tutti gli effetti nella storia delle due promotion.
Spiace per Henderson, non perchè non do merito a Pettis ma viste le ultime difese avrei preferito vedere Benson arrivare in UFC da campione, ma tant'è...
Assurdo il calcio di Pettis, quello meritava il KO come pochi altri colpi che abbia visto.
Per il resto mi è sembrato la definitiva prova che Horodecki è poco più che mediocre ed appena incontra un fighter di un certo livello va più o meno in crisi.
Comunque serata malinconica per me, mi dispiacerà non vedere più la WEC.

STRIKEFORCE MATCHMAKER CONFIRMS ALISTAIR OVEREEM WILL TAKE ON BOBBY LASHLEY AT "DYNAMITE!! 2010"
In a blockbuster move, Strikeforce matchmaker, Rich Chou has confirmed that their Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem will take on former WWE superstar, Bobby Lashley at "Dynamite!! 2010" on December 31st in Japan, with DREAM’s version of the title likely up for grabs. On fan questioned Chou about the fight via his Twitter page earlier today and the following response came back…
“Its going down in DREAM. Some massive boys in the ring for that one.”
Overeem has recently captured the K-1 World Grand Prix title to add to his Strikeforce Heavyweight Title, something which has received mixed reactions from the fans. With fights against the likes of Fedor Emelianenko and Fabricio Werdum looming for 2011 a win over Lashley would be a nice way to reintroduce himself to the MMA world.
As for Lashley, he suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Chad Griggs under the Strikeforce banner and left the promotion after his contract wasn’t extended. He holds notable wins over Bob Sapp and Wes Sims but a fight with “The Reem” is definately the biggest fight of his short career to date.

Strikeforce had great achievements in 2010, growing its label worldwide and becoming everyday more a rival to the UFC in the United States. And 2011 promises more surprises for the fans. Sources close to the event informed us that Strikeforce is planning a Heavyweight GP for the next year, and it’ll bring the top eight contenders in the Division, including the reining champion Alistair Overeem, who recently won K-1 World GP title.
Along with Overeem, names like Fedor Emelianenko, Fabrício Werdum, Josh Barnett, Antônio Silva, Brett Rogers, Andrei Arlovski and Sergei Kharitonov are also in talks to participate in the tournament.
The fight between Fedor and Silva, which has been rumored on the past days, is agreed to happen in February, and other match-ups are in works. Werdum, who comes from a first-round submission victory over Fedor, will probably fight Kharitonov in March, and Barnett vs Rogers, Overeem vs Arlovski might happen as well.
The Heavyweight tournament, which will happen in three events, will probably mark the first two Strikeforce Pay-Per-View events, at GP’s semifinals and final.

Che cazzo si è inventato Pettis, un colpo pazzesco che chiude un match molto intenso che per me ha meritato ampiamente di portarsi a casa.
Prestazione incredibilmente dominante di Cruz contro Jorgensen, lo sfidante che veniva da vittorie convincenti non è riuscito mai ad entrare nel match. Con tre vittorie di quel calibro francamente penso che sia molto difficile non considerare il neo campione bantam UFC come il miglior fighter dell'anno.
Nel complesso più che positivo ultimo evento per la WEC, ora vediamo gli effetti che avrà la fusione sull'UFC.
Per quanto rigurda Strikeforce ormai delle voci non mi fido più, voglio vedere una card ufficiale per il 29 di gennaio... |

Con tre vittorie di quel calibro francamente penso che sia molto difficile non considerare il neo campione bantam UFC come il miglior fighter dell'anno.
Sicuramente Cruz ha fatto un'annata straordinaria, ma è veramente dura scegliere chi sia il fighter dell'anno tra lui, Aldo e GSP. Nell'anno in cui i grandi o sono caduti o hanno fatto un'immensa fatica ad ottenere i loro risultati principali, questi tre hanno offerto sempre prestazioni solide. A Cruz e GSP è mancata soltanto la chiusura dei loro match, il KO o la submission per evitare la decision, ma tutti i loro match si sono risolti in un completo dominio.
